Friday night (10-15-10) our Haitians had their first service in their own language.
There were only a few here, but they were excited and want to have
a meeting weekly. We told them to try it monthly, at least for the first 3 months.
Since the sanctuary is here in our home, it means we must be here too,
though not present in their meeting.

Urgent Prayer Request from Honduras!

admin | October 18, 2010 in Uncategorized | Comments (0)

Daniel Melton writes from Honduras:
I am writing because of an urgent prayer request that has been passed on to me tonight (10-16-10). One of our long time pastors and past presidents of the national church, Reinerio Muñoz, along with some of his family, were held at gun point this last Wednesday. Two armed men entered their house while two other armed men waited at the bottom of the stairs for the pastor’s son to arrive home so they could kill him. I am not sure of all of the details but I know the family has had to move. The men had been contracted to come and take the life of the pastor’s son. Reinerio has moved his family to another part of town but continues to pastor the church which is located in the same building where they were living at the time of the assault so please continue to pray for protection for his family. Most of all for the salvation of his children. Thank you for praying about this matter.

Brother Lee Rickenbach writes from Gautemala regarding the recent visit from Reverend Steve Hight.

Good morning everyone…

It was no surprise that last week was very full with Bro. Hight teaching profesorado, regular classes at IBE were functioning, Thurs. eve. Bachillerato and Christ. Ed, plus board meetings, and special sessions (four on Fri. for me.) Then Sat. proved to be problematic with them cleaning up rockslides, closed roads and construction that cost us almost an extra two hours of travel, but we got him to the airport within two hours of departure. It then turned out he had an extra 45 min. wait anyway. But we still could sing, This is day that the Lord hath made.
Bro. Hight wrote yesterday a.m. that he had arrived safely. May the Lord all the ministry that transpired over the 9 days he was here in Guatemala.

This week finishes up the Academy years with graduation on the 18th. The Lord is wanting to give us direction for the next year in order to accept more kindergarten children (40 on the pre-inscription list right now) which doesn’t seem possible because of space and personnel limitations. And as I’ve written before, that what ever we do now needs to be preparing for 2012 and beyond. Continue to pray for our situation and the Guatemala National Assembly the first week of November.

God bless each one in their ministries, and as always, let us pray one for another.

Guatemala News From Lee Rickenbach

Br. Rickenbach writes from Guatemala:

Good sunny morning to all from Jalapa…

We’re thankful for breezy, sunshiney, dry days during the last few days here in Jalapa after a week of over 4 inches of rain on top of already saturated conditions.

Bro. Hight made it in safely Thursday via the plane and then via the Prado through some fairly severe mudslides on the road in from Sanarate. On the way in to get him, Bro. Misael had to go the longer route in the a.m. through Jutiapa because of several hours of closure and work to open up the short route.

Sunday a.m. we visited San Pedro Pinula and both Bro. Hight and I had a few minutes to greet and exhort. The pastor then finished out with another 15-20 minutes of exhortation/preaching and a time of prayer at the altar. We also visited a new church under construction a few kilometers outside of the town. Rex2 you would be very interested in there cell structure and how well organized they are in spite of some other strong concerns we have with their liturgy. Sunday evening, Bro. Hight spoke at Central with a good spirit in the service.

Yesterday was super hectic with the start of the fiscal month and Bro. Hight’s class in the afternoon. I think the pastor of Stone City Academy thoroughly enjoyed his visit to the Hope Emanuel Academy just across the street and the personnel here as well enjoyed having him. It was fun to see the bright faces responding in English to some of his inquiries.

Let’s continue to lift one another up in prayer as we head into the final quarter of the year. Looks now like James and Rachel are going to get a visit from Rachel’s Mom and Aunt later this month. Maria is looking forward to the end of a good school year and doing some special things before the start of next year. Rex2, Missy, Devin and Jared are hoping to see grandparents in the US for the holidays, and maybe somehow some of us can all get together before the beginning of 2011 and enjoy some CA fellowship. I think we all remember Sarah bringing the “Mayflower” over for a centerpiece for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and making it a special time.

God bless and have a great week!
