At least 10 and possibly more missionaries from Haiti are being helped by the Middletons during the current disaster in Haiti. They are helping with transportation and lodging. If there are other holiness missionaries who are seeking assistance in the Dominican Republic, the Middletons can be reached at the following phone numbers:

The Rex McDowell family is making the transition from language students to full-time missionaries. As expected they are experiencing the various problems that plague missionaries all over the world. Their van broke down and the transmission needs some work. They are working with nationals and planting the seeds for church growth. Rex writes in an email the following:
My little family has still been trying to transition from being “language students” to being “missionaries” and it hasn’t been particularly easy. So I spent a good part of the day sorting through different things, getting caught up from our time in the States, and writing thank-you letters. In the morning a mechanic from a nearby transmission shop came with a flatbed and picked up our van.On Tues. morning I caught a morning bus out to Cartago and spent a good bit of the day having a planning-for-the-future meeting with Rolando. We started with a good time of prayer and our time together was very profitable.
Please pray for Rex and Missy as they continue their work for the Lord in a new way.
The school in Jalapa Guatemala will not have snow but it is starting in some cold weather. Lee Rickenback writes the following:
Good chilly Monday morning from Jalapa…
Miami set a low temp record of 35 Sat. night. Jalapa was 48 this a.m. but a 15-20 mph wind made it feel like the low 30s. Maybe with “global warming” we’re starting into a equatorial icecaps and polar rain forests!
Tues. eveving, we had our first parent conference of the New Year for the Academy. We’ll only have 5 new ones this year with the limited space, but we thank the Lord for another year to train little minds and little hearts for the Kingdom. One problematic child last year from a home where both parents work improved socially throughout the school year and during the vacation break has developed a better relation with his older brother. His parents were thrilled and so were we. Biblical values impact the whole being!
Please continue to pray for the school in Jalapa. The enemy will do his best to derail anything that honors God.
Ronald and Anna Smith are helping compile, edit, and proofread upcoming books by the Adams and Troyers. Even though this work may not be as dramatic and exciting as braving the dangers of life on the African mission field, it still is necessary. They recently sent out a newsletter to their supporters and it included a beautiful New Year’s poem. The poem follows:
